# Using Tholi

Open Tholi on the website you want help with, enter a destination, and choose
**Guide me**. Keep your request focused on the result you want, such as
"Change the text size to Large."

## Follow your guide

**Guide** shows the current instruction and your destination. A highlight points
to a control on the website. Read the instruction before clicking, especially
when several controls have similar names.

If the control is not visible, follow any scroll cue or open the menu mentioned
in the instruction. If guidance looks wrong, pause and
[check the troubleshooting steps](https://tholi.io/docs/troubleshooting).

Tholi checks what happened after an action. Opening a menu is progress toward
a task; it does not mean the entire task is complete. Step estimates can change
as more of the website becomes available.

## Use Conversation

Switch to **Conversation** to explain your destination, answer a question or ask
"Why this step?" Switching between Guide and Conversation keeps the same task.
You can correct your request without describing every click again.

See [Choosing and changing a destination](https://tholi.io/docs/journeys) for examples.

## Widget and continuity

To keep Tholi beside the page, open **Tholi settings** and choose **Use floating
widget**. Drag its handle to move it or use **Widget menu** for placement and
size controls. With the handle focused, arrow keys move the widget and
Shift plus an arrow key resizes it.

- **Expand widget** gives questions and details more room.
- **Dock to sidebar** returns to the browser panel. If Firefox asks you to,
select the Tholi toolbar icon to finish opening the sidebar.
- The widget's close control minimizes it to a small launcher. Select the
launcher to restore it. Minimizing keeps your task and does not stop checking.
- In smaller widget sizes, look in **Widget menu** for Pause, Resume and Stop.

[Pausing and resuming](https://tholi.io/docs/sessions) explains how these controls differ.

## Optional assisted navigation

**Assisted navigation** is off by default. In settings, you can enable it to let
Tholi open eligible menus and disclosures or select explicitly requested view
options. Some websites still require your own click.

It does not follow links, fill fields, sign in, upload files, submit forms or
perform final actions. Pause, turn the setting off, or minimize Tholi to suppress
assistance and take over.

For colors and motion, see [Appearance](https://tholi.io/docs/appearance).
